Nora Aunor is a smoker

The Philippines' superstar, Nora Aunor, has recently been criticized by a priest and medical practitioners over her cover picture on YES! magazine where she's holding a cigarette. She said there's nothing wrong if she is a smoker. Joan Maglipon, editor in chief of YES!, said that the picture is a representation of Nora's current image - an icon. According to the critics, Nora should be a role model to all since she's in the entertainment business. I think, maybe this issue was made a big deal due to the recently launched smoke-free campaign by Metro Manila Development Authority in the whole metro area. I'm not a smoker but I'm just wondering if criticisms are also being thrown to the country's ex-President and current President who are known as smokers too.

The Philippine’s Superstar, Nora Aunor, has arrived in the country on August 2, 2011, for a contract with TV5 and Laguna Governor ER Ejercito. Her loyal fans, Noranians, welcomed her at the Airport while singing her song Pearly Shell. The actress will do a drama mini-series with a working title Donya Negra under the direction of Mario O’Hara and a movie, El Presidente: The Emilio Aguinaldo Story, under the direction of Tikoy Aguiluz. Those were Mo Twister’s words against showbiz writer and talent manager, Ogie Diaz. The “word war” started on Vice Ganda’s concert directed by GB Sampedro. There was a little problem between Vice and Direk GB that Mo felt he needed to defend his director friend. Ogie on the other hand is also defending Vice. According to Mo, he was offended when Ogie started talking about his daughter who lives in the States now. That was when Mo also dragged the name of Ogie’s mother into the “word war” saying, “Hindi ko naman winish na mamatay (ang mother ni Ogie), ang sabi ko ay ise-celebrate ko na lang (I do not wish her dead (Ogie’s mom), I said I will just celebrate it…” Mo also added that Ogie is the worst kind of people in the business. Reggie Lee, a Filipino in Hollywood

At first glance you would not suspect that Reggie Lee is a Filipino because of his Chinese features. But he is a 100% Filipino! He was born in Quezon City, Philippines, to Zenaida Telmo and Jesus Espiritu Valdez. Upon hearing his interview in ABS-CBN, I eagerly called a friend (who is also an avid fan of Prison Break). He is "Kim" on that famous tv series and he was sooo good in portraying his villain character that we "hated" him for that. I told my friend, "Kim is a Filipino! The Chinese guy in Prison Break speaks Tagalog!". We're really proud of him. Reggie Lee was also in the Pirates of the Caribbean, Drag Me To Hell, and many other Hollywood movies. He will be portraying (for the first time) a Filipino character in Here Comes the Boom, a film with Kevin James, Salma Hayek and Charice.

Manny Pacquiao stands against Reproductive Health in Congress

The world's most famous boxer, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, is serving his country, this time as people's representative. The Sarangani congressman attended the session on reproductive health (RH) and his stand is against the contraceptives despite of his wife's claim of being a contraceptive (pill) user. Pacquiao cleared the issue saying that Jinkee used to take pills but she already stopped taking them years ago. Pacquiao even quoted a Bible phrase, "go to the world and multiply", which he said describes his stand on RH bill.

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago told Pacquiao not to make further statements about RH bill after the Sarangani congressman literally interpreted a phrase from the Bible. Pacquiao's mother, known as Mommy Dionisia, reacted to the Senator's statements against her son. Mommy D said the Senator should respect Pacquiao as an elected congressman and that he has a right to express his opposition on the RH bill.

After leaving a bad impression to some of his fans in Manila, Philippines, on May 10, 2011, Justin Beiber had only 7 fans when he arrived at Hong Kong airport, according to the Sunday Morning Post. The paper said that the bodyguards were "three times" more than the female fans. As usual, he didn't acknowledge any of the fans and walked passed them. Some fans are still defending him saying that Justin has fallen ill when he arrived in HK.

Justin tweeted that streets of Manila were filled and that the show was great but tough. He loved the energy and thanked his "most loyal amazing fans in the world". He left Manila for Hong Kong at 10am (Manila time) on May 11, 2011.
